Dear Ministry of Justice,
I write to request information and documents as follows:
* Please advise what work, if any, the Ministry of Justice has done
in relation to the draft Class Actions Bill and Rules that were
provided to the Secretary for Justice by the Rules Committee in
July 2009?
* Please provide copies of any policy papers or advice prepared
after 1 July 2009 (whether departmental, ministerial, or cabinet)
in relation the above Bill (or any other Bill which might fulfil
the same purpose)?
* Please advise what priority has been accorded to the Class Action
Bill (or any other Bill which might fulfil the same purpose)?
If you decline the above request in relation to any policy papers
or advice, please provide for each document the date, title,
recipient, a description of the document, and an explanation as to
why the Ministry considers it has grounds to withold the
information under the Official Information Act.

Official Information Act Request
I refer to your email of 23 May 2012 requesting, under the Official
Information Act 1982: "what work, if any, the Ministry of Justice has done
in relation to the draft Class Actions Bill and Rules that were provided
to the Secretary for Justice by the Rules Committee in July 2009" and
"copies of any policy papers or advice prepared after July 1 2009 (whether
departmental, ministerial, or cabinet) in relation the above Bill (or any
other Bill which might fulfil the same purpose” and "what priority has
been accorded to the Class Action Bill (or any other Bill which might
fulfil the same purpose".
A response to your request is currently being prepared. However due to
the consultations necessary to make a decision on the request, a proper
response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.
Accordingly, I am extending the time limit for response to this request
for a further 10 working days under section 15A of the Official
Information Act and will respond to you by 5 July 2012.
You have the right under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act to
complain to the Ombudsman about the decision to extend the time frame for
response to your request.
