Communications from principals to the Minister expressing concerns about Te Tiriti

Peter Sime made this Official Information request to Ministry of Education

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Peter Sime to read recent responses and update the status.

From: Peter Sime

Dear Ministry of Education,

On 27 November 2025, Minister Stanford was reported saying in relation to the creation of a list of schools that have committed to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi;

“I think there's a huge amount of pressure on the sector - very, very unfair, quite nasty pressure - that's been put on principals who are ringing me saying that they don't like the pressure that's been put on them, and quite often they're signing up when in fact it wasn't something they particularly wanted to do but they feel that there's pressure on them from certain people in society,” (https://www.1news.co.nz/2025/11/27/advoc...).

Please provide the amount of calls, emails, and any other communications to the Minister between 1 October and 27 November where principals express concerns about being pressured to declare support for the Te Tiriti o Waitangi. And all minutes, emails, records, notes or other information relating to these calls.

Yours faithfully,

Peter Sime
