I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the fyi.org.nz website.

Hi Alex

Thanks for your request for our submission, and other information, on the
Law Commission’s OIA review. I’ve attached a copy of the submission itself
as a starting point for you.

I’m still checking for other information covered by your request. Since
the request is quite wide, it would help to know if there is something you
are particularly interested in. For instance, if you just wanted to find
out about the process that we used to develop our submission, I could
easily explain this without needing to bombard you with bits of paper that
may not be particularly informative. Or if you were interested in why
people came to their views on particular questions that the Law Commission
posed, again I could explain how we dealt with it, or find the relevant
information for you, or tell you that we didn’t have a view. (As you’ll
see from the submission, we didn’t answer every question. We just focused
on the questions and the parts of the OIA that interact with the Privacy
Act or that might have a consequent effect on privacy or our work).

Any help would be much appreciated, particularly when it comes to finding
emails. Or if you now have enough for your purposes, then let me know.

Kind regards

Katrine

Dear Katrine Evans,

Thanks for your response. In response to your query about drafts etc, I'm primarily interested in the process, and the views expressed (particularly those which might not have made it into the final submission). I'm quite interested in seeing what government bodies _really_ think of the OIA, and the formal submisisons are only part of that picture.

Yours sincerely,

Alex Harris

Dear Alex

Here is the rest of the information that we hold that is covered by your
request. I hope you find it useful. My apologies for the slight delay.

As well as our submission of 7 February, we made an interim submission to
the Law Commission, which we have included here together with
correspondence relating to it.

Our process was to seek input from various staff members, which were then
considered when we drafted the final submission. The comments in some of
the documents reflect these views. Staff views do not, of course,
represent the views of the Commissioner - the Commissioner's views are
those that were included in the final submission.

We don't have any drafts of the submission, so we cannot help you with
that. We have only withheld one piece of information, which is a staff
member’s name on one of the templates. (For the most part staff did not
fill in their names where it says "allocated to" on the templates). The
names of senior staff members have been left in.

Kind regards

Katrine
