Huawei Security Concerns

Brodie Costello made this Official Information request to Minister of Communications and Information Technology

The request was refused by Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

From: Brodie Costello

Dear Minister of Communications and Information Technology,

I would like to submit a request for government information regarding Huawei, particularly regarding cyber security concerns around the company. I would furthermore like to request information on the NZ government’s position on the Australian government decision to reject Huawei from gaining a contract for their National Broadband Network, and the reasoning behind why New Zealand has not rejected Huawei from aspects of New Zealand telecommunications. Any correspondence, reports, studies, papers, briefings, policy papers, or anything else that could be deemed helpful and directly relating to the above would be great.
Any information that can aid my research would be immensely helpful, and greatly appreciated. I look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,

Brodie Costello

You maybe interested to know that I recently requested the titles and dates of all papers and memos about Huawei's connections with the Chinese GOvernment and the PLA from the DPMC, Amy Adams and the NZSIS. I got declined by all under s6(a) and s6(b)(i), and complained to the Ombudsmen. She found the withholding justified, but she couldn't give the reasons why because explaining the reasons would compromise the interests that s6(a) and s6(b)(i) protect.
