Self-inflicted deaths in in-patient mental health facilities
Ti Lamusse made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health
The request was successful.
From: Ti Lamusse
Dear Ministry of Health,
Please provide me with the following:
-The number of self-inflicted deaths at publicly-funded in-patient mental health facilities, broken down by year as far back as records permit. Please break this down by ethnicity and gender.
-The number of self-inflicted deaths of patients of publicly-funded in-patient mental health facilities, broken down by year as far back as records permit. Please break this down by ethnicity and gender. I would like to note the reason for this slightly different wording is because some patients may have taken their lives while not on the premises themselves.
Yours faithfully,
Ti Lamusse
Ministry of Health
Good morning,
Thank you for your request for official information, ref: H201902094

The number of self-inflicted deaths of patients of publicly-funded
in-patient mental health facilities, broken down by year as far back as

In order to provide you with the information you are seeking, the Ministry
is requesting for you to please clarify the details of your request.
The first question contained in your request can be answered by the
Ministry, however the second question can only be answered by using a
specific, pre-existing dataset with slightly different definitions for
"in-patient mental health facilities" and "self-inflicted deaths", and
which excludes people aged over 65.
Please advise by return email whether or not you would prefer your first
question to be answered using a methodology based on your question, or
whether you would prefer it to be consistent with that of the second
question.
Kind regards,
