Blocking of internet sites

Andrew Crow made this Official Information request to Department of Internal Affairs

The request was partially successful.

From: Andrew Crow

Dear Department of Internal Affairs,

In the hours after the tragic events in Christchurch, several website where blocked. Sites such as [a website name].

Under OIA I would like some facts about this blocking of sites.

1. Was this by instruction of the government or did ISP’s decide to block sites of their own decision?

2. Under what relevant law was this done?

3. Have there been requests to block [a website name] in the past?
By which I mean has a member of govt of public asked that DIA block [a website name] at any time before March 15th.
Was it blocked?
If not then why not?

4. Any documents related to the blocking of sites post the Christchurch attack.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Crow
