Agreement signed for journalists to obtain parliamentary swipe card
Alex Harris made this Official Information request to Parliamentary Service
The request was refused by Parliamentary Service.
From: Alex Harris
Dear Parliamentary Service,
Firstly, I understand that you are not yet subject to the OIA. However, I also understand that you have a policy of responding to requests as if you were. So, I'd like to request some information:
* the agreement signed by members of the parliamentary press gallery to obtain a swipe card to access parliament.
I am askign because it has been revealed that parliamentary services turned over information from a journalist's swipe card, allowing their movements to be tracked. Questions are being asked whether this constituted an invasion of privacy, and whether journalists are properly warned that information is being collected and may be used in this manner.
I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the fyi.org.nz website.
With regards to s12 of the OIA, I am an NZ citizen and in NZ.
Yours faithfully,
Alex Harris
