Dear Sharon Alexander,
well that is interesting as we have evidence that DOC staff were present and the DOC brand was on advertising for the meetings, so we will be needing to see the information asked for about those staff and meetings please. Evidence here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/19768434...

Can you please clarify whether all the huts mentioned are available to possum hunters and deer hunters or just the ones marked as visitor huts. Are the others off limits by some written law? If so please provide evidence that tax payers are legally excluded from using these huts.

Thanks,

T. Benseman

Thank-you for your inquiry.

I have endeavoured  to provide clarification on the points you have
raised.

"we have evidence that DOC staff were present".

Yes individuals employed by the Department of Conservation and Nga Whenua
Rahui were present.  These same individuals whakapapa to Ngati Porou and
Te Whanau Apanui and were asked by Te Runanga o Ngati Porou to be
involved.

"the DOC brand was on advertising for the meetings"

Yes the Departments logo was on posters advertising the roadshow.  This is
because the Department of Conservation fully supports this korero,
actually we see it as an important part of our section 4 obligations.

This does not change the fact that the Roadshows were undertaken by Ngati
Porou specifically for the community of Ngati Porou to discuss issues
surrounding the Raukumara Forest Park.

"Can you please clarify whether all the huts mentioned are available to
possum hunters and deer hunters or just the ones marked as visitor huts".

The Huts described as staff accommodation are known as Biodiversity Huts.
They are there to support pest control operations undertaken by
professional hunters, specifically Deer and Feral Goat contractors.

They are not classified as visitor huts but are available to all to use
for 'short term stays' consistent with our visitor hut policy.

Hopefully you find these answers useful.

Nga mihi
