Smart Meters by 2017 Area Unit

Adam Ward made this Official Information request to Electricity Authority

Electricity Authority did not have the information requested.

From: Adam Ward

To Whom It May Concern

As per the information specified on the Electricity Authority Website:
https://www.ea.govt.nz/operations/retail...
it appears that the ICP Registry contains information upon whether or not each ICP in the country is monitored by a Smart Meter. I am aware that access to the ICP Registry is restricted for 'non-participants' in the electricity market. However, I would like to acquire a data set which specifies:

1. The number of ICPs within each 2017 Area Unit Boundary
2. The number of ICPs within each 2017 Area Unit Boundary which are monitored by a smart meter.
3. The number of ICPs within each 2017 Area Unit Boundary that relate to commercial enterprises.

N.B. I realize that the Electricity Authority may not hold data allowing it to answer part 3 of the above request.

Since the data requested will be aggregated to a 2017 Area Unit Level this does not violate any of the stipulations of the Privacy Act 1993 (https://www.privacy.org.nz/the-privacy-a...). In other words, using the data supplied it would not be possible to determine whether electricity consumption within any individual residence is monitored by a smart meter. Furthermore, such information pertaining to a given residence could easily be determined using an online search tool (e.g. https://www.electrickiwi.co.nz/).

Yours faithfully,

Dr Ward

Nigel Jones left an annotation ()

You could try to ask for information split by network operator (Vector/Northpower/etc) which they should have, or alternatively see if they can further subset it by unique portions of ICPs which would/should split West/North Auckland from Central/South because of the old United Networks network (not sure if new ICPs include the UN portion). Would at least get you close to geographic districts.

You'd have to discard embedded networks (and maybe ask for that data to be removed for Privacy Act reasons).
