Dear Ministry of Health,
Thank you very much for your response on 02 November (Ref: H201806640). However, I found that the data on Maori population in 2013/14 might not be consistent with the remaining years. Accordingly, the number of Maori population in 2013/14 is about 2.1 million which is much higher than the average number in the other years (about 700,000 people). Could you please kindly double check this figure and provide me the correct numbers?
Regarding the discharged patients, I wonder wether the number of discharges at each DHB include the outsourced activities and inter-districts flows. If possible, I very much appreciate if you could explain me more details on the scope of the statistics on discharges at each DHB.
Thank you very much for your help,
Yours faithfully,
Thai Quoc Khanh
Ministry of Health
Dear Thai Quoc Khanh
The hospital discharges includes all publicly funded hospitalisations
reported under that agency code. This means that, in general, if a DHB
contracts a private facility to do specific surgical work it will be
counted under that agency code. It will depend on the nature of the
contract though. Inter-district flows are not directly contracted so are
more likely to reflect the agency that provided the service. Hence you'll
see higher volumes (if adjusted for population size) in the agencies which
manage the bigger regional hospitals (Auckland, Capital & Coast,
Canterbury, etc.).
Please note that there was an error in the 2014 data. Please find attached
updated spreadsheet that reflect the changes for 2014 data for the funded
population.
I trust this clarifies your questions.
Sincerely
Margee Do
