Total aerial poisoning operations in NZ since 1950

Daryl Trask made this Official Information request to Department of Internal Affairs

The request was partially successful.

From: Daryl Trask

Dear Department of Internal Affairs,
Please provide me with information on all aerial poisoning operations in NZ by year and location since 1950. Please inform the areas treated, type of poison used, department/organization conducting the drop, amount of poison used, and dates of treatment. If Internal Affairs is unaware of any of these drops, why?

Yours faithfully,

Daryl Trask

Dear OIA,
Thanks for the direction. I appreciate the department of conservation will likely not include drops done by tbfree, ospri or other organisations other than under their banner. I will need information regarding ALL aerial drops conducted in NZ since 1950. Where would this information likely be held if conservation department cannot supply?

Yours sincerely,

Daryl Trask

Department of Internal Affairs

Hi Daryl,

As previously advised, the Department of Internal Affairs primary functions are not environmental monitoring or pest management and the Department is also not a central agency with oversight across other agencies.

It is likely that the complete set of information (including commercial and individual use of 1080) that you appear to be seeking may not be held by any agency centrally. However the Department of Conservation may be able to assist you with further enquiries in regard to this matter, as pest management ia among their primary functions.

Kind regards,

Michelle Reed | Lead Advisor – Official Correspondence
