From: Benjiman Farnath
Dear Department of Conservation,
I am making this OIA information request to obtain all correspondence between DOC and the Minister of conservation Eugenie Sage MP in regards to the proposed cull of our valuable resource of Himalayan Tahr and the impact on tourism, guiding and both recreational and commercial hunting all without the required consultation with recreational hunters and hunting associations as per the 1993 HTCP act. Also the full details on how population numbers were obtained, what the percentage of variation is possible on those numbers and the tourism, recreational and commercial hunting potential revenue loss the country will suffer with the very real possibility of the loss of Tahr as a huntable resource.
Yours faithfully,
Benjiman Farnath

Dear Benjiman
Thank you for your Official Information Act request to the Department of
Conservation/Minister of Conservation, dated 20/09/2018. You have asked
for the following:
‘all correspondence between Minister Sage and the Department of
Conservation in regards to the Himalayan Tahr management since she became
minister’
how population numbers were obtained, percentage of variation; potential
revenue loss for country’
This letter is to advise you that we are extending the 20 working day
period to respond to your request, as allowed under section 15A(1) of the
Official Information Act 1982. We require an additional 20 working days to
respond to your request. We will send you a response no later than
15/11/2018, earlier if possible.
The extension of time is necessary as it necessitates a search through a
large quantity of information and meeting the original time limit would
unreasonably interfere with the operations of the Department.
You have the right, under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act to
make a complaint to an Ombudsman about the extension.
If you wish to discuss this response to your request, please contact Geoff
Woodhouse on phone number 027 540 3747 or by email: [email address]
Yours sincerely
Andy Roberts
Director – Operations, Eastern South Island
