Dear Ministry for Primary Industries,

Independent advice was sought from the National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (NAWAC) on the animal welfare impacts of the virus in RHDV1 K5.
The NAWAC recommends that research into more humane pest management tools be continued.

1) What plans do the Ministry for Primary Industry have for research into more humane pest management tools to control wild rabbits to replace the use of the inhumane RHDV.
2) Given that MPI invested $480K + $260k into RHDV research, How much money does MPI plan to invest in humane pest rabbit control over the next 5 years, year by year?
3) What Organisations and /or researchers and.or collaborations have MPI engaged with or who will MPI engage with to research humane pest rabbit controls?
4) What humane methods of pest rabbit control are MPI currently investigating and investing in?
5) How will MPI eradicate RHDV from the environment as soon as its use is replaced by more humane methods?
