Immigration policies review
Phani made this Official Information request to Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment
The request was successful.
      From: Phani

Dear Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment,
I would like to make an OIA request in regards with a recent article published by newsroom.
As per the article published on 01/12/2017:
https://www.newsroom.co.nz/2017/11/30/64...
New immigration minister Lees-Galloway says “What’s happening is people are continuously rolling over their visa, staying in New Zealand for nine, ten, eleven years or more with no pathway to residency which is unreasonable to the person because if you’ve been here for ten years then maybe we do need your skill.”
Is there any residence visa policy being reviewed/considered for people who have been rolling over their essential skill work visas from last 5 or more years.
I thank you for your time and consideration of this request.
Yours faithfully,
Phani

    Dear Phani,

I am looking into your request under the Official Information Act, “Is
there any residence visa policy being reviewed/considered for people who
have been rolling over their essential skill work visas from last 5 or
more years”, received by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and
 Employment on 1 March 2018.

I would like to clarify
(1)    whether you are looking for a response (a yes/no from the Ministry
of Business, Innovation and Employment, or from the Minister of
Immigration, on whether work is underway or is being considered on that
issue), or whether you are looking for specific types of official
 documents and
(2)    if you are looking for documents, what types of documents and over
what period. For example, the previous Government introduced a South
Island Contribution Visa in 2017 (the Cabinet decision paper is available
[1]online) – are you looking for advice related to that earlier decision?
or advice on a separate issue?

If you are looking for a ‘yes/no’ response, the OIA may not be the
appropriate channel. Once I understand the information you want, I can
 advise on the best approach.

If you would like to discuss your request further, please provide a phone
number to contact you. Any phone conversation can be followed up with an
email through this address to record the details.

Regards,

    Dear Phani,

I am following up on the email sent on Monday last week, 5 March 2018,
seeking clarification of the scope of your request for official
information. I have not received a response to date.

If you wish to proceed with this request, please reply with a clearer
scope for your request by Monday, 19 March 2018. If the scope of the
request is not clarified by that date, the request may be declined.
If you wish to withdraw your request, you can do so at any time by
 advising us in writing.
