Length of stays in ARUs and Directed Segregation
Ti Lamusse made this Official Information request to Department of Corrections
The request was successful.
From: Ti Lamusse
Dear Department of Corrections,
In an OIA response by the Department dated 14 September 2017 (ref#: C88264), Julie Miller claimed that "over the past five years (to June 2017), of all prisoner stays in at-risk units, 13924 (75%) were for 7 days or less [sic], 2964 (16%) were for 8-20 days, and 1650 (9%) were for longer than 20 days."
I am interested in the detail behind this data.
(1) Please provide me with the number of stays in ARUs that (a) lasted fewer than 7 days (b) lasted between 8-15 days and (c) lasted longer than 15 days. Please break this down by financial year as far back as records permit.
In the event that you cannot provide me with the data in the form I have requested (7, 8-15 and 15 days), please provide the data broken down by 7 days or fewer, 8-20 days and longer than 20 days.
(2) In addition, please provide me with the number segregation directives (stays in directed segregation) that (a) lasted fewer than 7 days (b) lasted between 8-15 days and (c) longer greater than 15 days. Please break this down by financial year as far back as records permit.
In the event that you cannot provide me with the data in the form I have requested (7, 8-15 and 15 days), please provide the data broken down by 7 days or fewer, 8-20 days and longer than 20 days.
Yours faithfully,
Ti Lamusse
