I requested the *sentenced* prisoner numbers, broken down by ethnicity and gender. You provided me with a link to the total prison population for September 2017. Please provide me that information.

My apologies for the delay in responding to your email. Please see below response from the business unit that prepared the response to your original OIA request.
Our understanding is that the original request was for the prison population on Election Day. That request came before Election Day, so the only available number at that time would be from the 2016 forecast for September 2017. The forecast breaks the numbers down by remand vs. sentence and by gender, but not ethnicity.
Obviously the exact numbers for Election Day are now known – given that they are provided by an actual daily count of prisoners, Corrections would be best placed to give them (and could give the required gender and ethnicity breakdowns).
The 2016 forecast figures give a monthly breakdown by remand/sentenced and male/female (but not ethnicity). They are available on:

The forecast covers a ten-year period and it is not a suitable source of day-to-day counts.
