Hello Paul,

Thank you for your email of 8 August 2017 asking why golf carts are
prohibited on New Zealand roads in comparison to similar electric carts
used by NZ Post.

Please note, as this type of query falls under standard information we
offer customers, the NZ Transport Agency have not treated this as a
request for official information under the Official Information Act 1982.

Electric vehicles such as the NZ Post Paxster have been designed for road
use and comply with a number of internationally-recognised safety
standards. Golf carts do not comply with these safety standards and are
not safe or appropriate for road use. In addition, the NZ Post vehicles
are exclusively operated under a strictly controlled safety management
plan by NZ Post employees who have undergone specialist training. This
provides an additional level of safety that would not be present with a
golf cart operated without restriction by a member of the general public.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to reply to this email
or contact us on 0800 108 809 (+64 6953 6200 from overseas). We are open
Monday to Friday, between 8am and 6pm.

Kind regards,
