Request for clarification of the best ACC Read Code that applies to sciatic radiculopathy not associated with trauma to the intervetebral disc, but caused by trauma located in the hip/thigh

David Lawson made this Official Information request to Accident Compensation Corporation

The request was successful.

From: David Lawson

Dear Accident Compensation Corporation,

I refer you to the ACC Read Code N12C2 Lumbar disc prolapse with radiculopathy which provides cover for both the prolapse disc and also the radicular sciatic symptoms that travel down an injured persons sciatic pathway from from the spine right through to the foot.

OIA Request:

I respectfully request your assistance in confirming the best ACC Read Code/s that reflect the sciatic radiculopathy that is associated solely with either of the following injuries;

(a) entrapment of the sciatic nerve within the musculature of the buttock caused through injury to said musculature, that does not have an associated lesion to the sciatic nerve itself, but the sciatic being caused by the irritation of the sciatic nerve transversing through the musculature.

(b) injury or lesion to the sciatic nerve in the buttock/thigh region caused through accidental trauma.

I have located the Read Code of N143. Sciatica, however I am unsure whether there is a more specific Read Code that covers irritation of, or the lesion of, the sciatic nerve in the buttock/hip/thigh caused by accidental trauma, which goes on to cause radicular sciatic symptoms further down the injured persons limb.

I appreciate your time and assistance and respectfully request that my request be responded to under urgency within the next 10 working days, being by the end of business close on 15th August 2017, with my reason being so that I can formally lodge pursuant to Section 48 (a), (b) and (c ) of the ACC Act 2001 claims for cover and entitlements for a number of classes of injuries sustained, and so as allow me to access the correct assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for these injuries.

Yours faithfully,

David Lawson

Dear Mr Lawson

Thank you for your email dated 3 August 2017, copied below, requesting
further information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).

ACC is working on your request and will be in touch with you as soon as
possible, and certainly by 31 August.

We have noted your request for receipt of the information by 15 August. If
we are able to accommodate that time frame, we will.

While the Act allows a requester to ask for a request to be processed
urgently (where they specify the reason for this), agencies are not bound
by such a request. Whether a response can be provided under urgency will
depend on various factors, including the complexity of the request, the
time required to form a response, and the workload of the agency.

If you have any questions in the meantime, we will be happy to work with
you to resolve these. We can be contacted via email at:
[1][email address].

Yours sincerely
