From: Rhys Walker
Dear Ministry of Social Development,
My name is Rhys Walker, a citizen of New Zealand.
I request under the Official Information Act, that you please provide me the most recent statistics on the amount of people under the age of 19 (or their caregivers) receiving jobseeker support, the orphans benefit, youth payment or the unsupported childs benefit?
I am seeking these statistics so that I may further understand the amount of young people in our country living with the majority of their income coming from MSD.
Yours faithfully,
Rhys Walker

[1][FYI request #6066 email]
Dear Mr Walker
On 26 June 2017 you emailed the Ministry requesting, under the Official
Information Act 1982, the following information:
· The most recent statistics on the amount of people under the age
of 19 (or their caregivers) receiving jobseeker support, the orphans
benefit, youth payment or the unsupported child’s benefit.
The Ministry has decided to grant your request in part, namely information
which relates to the number of clients aged 18 or younger receiving a form
of benefit including Jobseeker Support, Youth Payment and Young Parent
Payment. Additionally you will be provided with information which relates
to the number of dependent children of clients receiving Orphans Benefit
or Unsupported Childs Benefit aged 19 or older. However, it will take some
time to prepare this information for release. The information will be sent
to you by 7 August 2017. Ministry has also decided to refuse your request
for information which relates to the number of clients aged 18 or under
receiving Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Child’s Benefit, and the number
of dependants of recipients of Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Childs
benefit aged 18 or younger under section 9(2)(a) of the Official
Information Act. This information is withheld as it is likely to risk
identifying the individuals concerned.
If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact
[2][MSD request email]
If you are not satisfied with this decision, you have the right to seek an
investigation and review by the Ombudsman. Information about how to make a
complaint is available at [3]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or 0800 802 602.

Dear OIA_Requests (MSD),
Please explain how parties would be identified for the unsupported child's and orphans benefit? It is common knowledge that this number is greater than which one would be able to identify parties. Even so, I am asking for a number, not the details of the beneficiaries.
Elaborate please, I don't believe you're justified in your reasoning,
Yours sincerely,
Rhys Walker
