Crop Desiccation in NZ

Kyle Sutherland made this Official Information request to Ministry for Primary Industries

The request was partially successful.

From: Kyle Sutherland

Dear Ministry for Primary Industries,

I am writing to request information on crop desiccation in New Zealand.

1. Does the Ministry hold information on the number of farms around New Zealand which use the crop desiccation practice prior to harvest? If able to split between crop types and regions please do.

2. What is the process MPI use to test for glyphosate levels in crops that have been sprayed before harvest?

3. How many of these tests were performed in the last year?

4. What are the MPI testing guidelines for allowed levels of glyphosate in products to be sold for human consumption in NZ?

Any additional information on the practice that you can send through would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Yours faithfully,

Kyle Sutherland
