Dear Rex,

 

Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (“Act”) request to the
Hon Dr Nick Smith, Minister for Building & Construction, in which you
requested the following information:

 

“I am writing to request the figure for the amount of money that has been
spent on 'temporary' accommodation in NZ by housing people in motels. I
would like a year-by-year breakdown from 2010 to date.

 

Once you find that number, I'd be interested to know how many houses could
have been built with that sum.”

 

I am of the opinion that the information to which your request relates is
more closely connected with the functions of the Minster for Social
Housing than with this office.

 

Accordingly, pursuant to section 14 of the Act, I have transferred your
