I refer to your request of 9 February 2017, under the Official Information Act 1982, for the following information regarding the 2014 review of complementary medicine qualifications:

• All communications regarding this review, and any documentation that was generated as part of the review.

While NZQA did coordinate the review of complementary medicine qualifications in 2014, it was not responsible for the review itself. NZQA’s role was to maintain oversight of the review process and its outcomes. The review was led by representatives from the sector whose role it was to ensure the approach included all parties and encourage collaboration.

Considering the above, your original request may need clarification or refinement to enable NZQA to respond. If you wish to discuss this further, please respond by email or feel free to contact us at 0800 697 296 and ask to speak to someone in the Ministerials team.

Please note, any clarification or amendment to a request is considered to be a new request for the purpose of calculating the maximum statutory timeframe for response – see section 15(AA) of the Official Information Act.

On 13 February the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) sent you an email requesting refinement of your request. NZQA has not yet received a response. Unfortunately until this has been received, NZQA cannot provide a response to your request.

As mentioned in the 13 February email below, NZQA did not lead the review of complementary medicine qualifications but coordinated and maintained oversight of the review process and its outcomes.

You may wish to note that three sector representatives led the review of complementary medicine qualifications:

• Naturopathic College of New Zealand
• Wellpark College of Natural Therapies
• New Zealand College of Chinese Medicine.

These sector representatives will have information directly related to your OIA request.
