Length of time to provide information to requesters
Ross Francis made this Official Information request to Ministry of Justice
The request was partially successful.
From: Ross Francis
Dear Ministry of Justice,
Between 1 October 2015 and 1 October 2016 during which information requests were made and the requested information received, what was the average length of time taken by the Justice Ministry to provide the information to requesters?
How many times did requesters wait three months or longer to receive the information requested from the Justice Ministry between 1 October 2015 and 1 October 2016?
During the above period, has the Office of the Ombudsman raised any concerns with the Justice Ministry about the Ministry not meeting its statutory obligations re official information requests? If so, please send me all communication the Ministry has received from the Office of the Ombudsman about this question.
Yours faithfully,
Ross Francis

Luke,
My last question relating to the Office of the Ombudsman was asked with sections 15 and 15a in mind, but may include other issues that the Ombudsman's office may have investigated.

Dear Sophie,
Thanks for your reply.
I did make a separate request on July 22 this year to both [email address] and [email address]. I received a reply on the same day from a customer service representative at the Justice Ministry to say that my request had been forwarded to the National office. More than four months have elapsed and I have not received a response to that request.
I do not find it credible that requests to this site and to the email addresses above have not arrived or have been accidentally overlooked.
Yours sincerely,
Ross Francis

Justice have contacted me about the delivery of this request. We log all failed deliveries (blocks or bounces). There are no such failed deliveries to justice.govt.nz showing in the logs. Unfortunately, prior to November, we did not also retain logs of every successful delivery. We are now doing this to help track down issues such as this in future.
So while it seems from my perspective the mail must have been handed over to the justice.govt.nz server, I also cannot prove that it was.
Regards,
Oliver

In relation to the part of your request that asks, "...has the Office of the Ombudsman raised any concerns with the Justice Ministry about the Ministry not meeting its statutory obligations re official information requests?", does that part of your request refer specifically to the obligation to make decisions on requests within a certain timeframe and to extend if necessary (sections 15 and 15A), or, does that part of your request refer more generally to the Ministry's compliance overall with meeting all its obligations under the OIA?
