Membership of fraternal organizations requiring secrecy
Bill made this Official Information request to Government Communications Security Bureau

From: Bill
Dear Government Communications Security Bureau,
Are any members of the New Zealand GCSB, working in any capacity, active in in any fraternal organizations, such as the Freemasons, as part of their professional work or on a personal basis; now and any time over the past 10 years.
What is the GCSB's policy about such involvement - for example, are such activities required to be reported to GCSB, given the secretive nature of fraternal organizations like the Freemasons - for example, if information of national security concern was brought up during a meeting of the Freemasons, say, in the Wairarapa, would that GCSB employee be required to report to the GCSB the content those communications, given that fraternal organizations themselves, much like the GCSB, have strong codes of conduct that expect total secrecy from their membership. I m concerned to determine how potential conflicts of interests in such cases might be resolved.
Yours faithfully,
Bill
