Dear Department of Corrections,
In a response dated 26/06/12 to an OIA request from Alex Harris about the number of sexual assaults in New Zealand prisons (Response C58464 https://fyi.org.nz/request/204/response/...) the department of corrections was able to provide details as to the number of alleged sexual assaults from 2006 - 2011, distinct from the total number of serious assaults.
In a response dated 07/10/15 to a similar request from Allie Maxwell (Response C72793 https://www.fyi.org.nz/request/2955/resp...) the department was unable to provide the number of sexual assaults distinct from the total number of serious assaults.
Could you please inform me of the following:
1. Why was the data for the number of sexual assaults in prison available in 2012 but not in 2015?
2. Did the Department of Corrections policy regarding the collection of data on serious and sexual assaults in prisons change between 2012 and 2015?
3. Please provide any information on any advice the Department has received on changing the way that sexual assaults are reported between 2010 and 2016
