Dear Ministry of Social Development,

I am writing to request the following information:

1. For the years 1980 to 2016, the number of sole parents (receiving any benefit covered by the Social Security Act) with children in their care for whom child support payments are being paid to the Inland Revenue Department.

2. For the years 1980 to 2016, the number of sole parents (receiving any benefit covered by the Social Security Act) with children in their care for whom child support payments are NOT being paid to the Inland Revenue Department.

3. Any information or research that has been conducted on whether the introduction of Section 70A of the Social Security Act has had an impact on the number of people paying child support.

Ministry:

I understand that you made the same request to Inland Revenue for parts
one and three of your request, Inland Revenue will address those parts of
your request. Part two of your request is best aligned with the operations
of the Ministry of Social Development, please find the Ministry's response
to part two of your request below.

 

The information you have requested is available in the response the
Ministry provided to you on 29 June 2016. The information you have sought
for the number of sole parents in receipt of a benefit with dependent
children that Child Support payments are not being paid to Inland Revenue,
is the number of people who have a section 70A deduction imposed against
their benefit payments, plus the number of people that have an exemption.
This will provide you with the number you have requested.
