Thank you for your email of 1 July 2026 to the Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport (MCERT) seeking the following information:

The Climate Change Response Act 2002 has a purpose to +ACI-contribute to the global effort under the Paris Agreement to limit the global average temperature increase to 1.5+ALA- Celsius above pre-industrial levels+ADsAIg-
Would you please share the information, data or reporting that the Ministry measures or holds on the current global average temperature increases?

Please note that MCERT does not measure or hold the requested information, and I refer you to information published online by various trusted sources, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The Government is responding to climate change using the best available science. We accept the global consensus that climate change is happening and that human activity is the main cause. This understanding comes from sources, such as the IPCC, whose reports are based on a wide range of scientific studies. The IPCC AR6 Synthesis Report concludes that human activities have unequivocally caused global surface temperature to reach 1.1+ALA-C above 1850+IBM-1900 levels (the pre-industrial baseline) during the 2011+IBM-2020 period. See the full report here: https://www.ipcc.ch/report/ar6/syr/.

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Office of the Ombudsman of our decisions relating to this request, in accordance with section 28(3) of the Act. The relevant details can be found at: http://www.ombudsman.parliament.nz/.
