Dear Waiuku College,
I am making this request under the Official Information Act 1982.
I am seeking information about whether Waiuku College has introduced any restrictions, limitations, supervision requirements, or other controls affecting student access to toilets, bathrooms, or toilet stalls.
Please provide the following information about student toilet access restrictions at Waiuku College:
1. Any current policy, procedure, rule, instruction, notice, staff guidance, or internal communication relating to restricting, locking, supervising, monitoring, or limiting student access to toilets, bathrooms, or toilet stalls.
2. The date on which any current student toilet access restriction began, including whether it was introduced as a trial, temporary measure, or ongoing policy.
3. The total number of student toilets and toilet stalls normally available to students at the school.
4. The number of student toilets and toilet stalls currently available to students during class time, interval, lunch, and before or after school.
5. Any records, board papers, meeting minutes, emails, staff notices, health and safety assessments, risk assessments, incident reports, or decision documents relating to the decision to restrict student toilet access.
6. Any records explaining the reason for the restriction, including whether it relates to vaping, vandalism, bullying, student safety, supervision, plumbing, cleaning, property damage, or any other reason.
7. Any records of complaints, concerns, or feedback from students, parents, caregivers, staff, or board members about toilet access restrictions.
8. Any policy, instruction, or guidance given to teachers or staff about students being out of class to use the toilet, including whether students may be disciplined, marked late, questioned, or otherwise penalised because of delays in accessing toilets.
9. Any consideration, assessment, exemption process, or guidance relating to students with medical needs, disability needs, menstruation needs, anxiety, continence issues, or urgent toilet needs.
10. Any correspondence with the Ministry of Education, ERO, Police, Auckland Council, health and safety advisers, or any other external agency about student toilet access, bathroom restrictions, bathroom safety, vaping, vandalism, or supervision in bathrooms.
For clarity, I am not requesting personal information about any individual student. If any information needs to be withheld for privacy reasons, please redact the personal information and release the remaining information where possible.
