Thank you for your Official Information Act request to the Department of
Conservation, dated 10 May 2026. Your request has been captured with the
reference number of OIAD-6320

We have scoped your request and note that it requires clarification or
amendment. This is because initial searches indicate that there may be a
significant amount of material captured. Such a request (if not refined)
may lead to substantial collation/research and result in the application
of a notable timeframe extension or possible refusal under section 18(f)
of the Official Information Act. 

Could you please provide clarification/refinement in relation to the
following aspects of your request:

* Confirm whether your request specifically seeks information in
relation phase 2 of the Te Ara Mangawhero Trail. If you are seeking
all correspondence in relation to the trail as a whole (including
phase 1) then this is likely to be administratively burdensome (due to
the amount of inscope material) and result in substantial collation
and possible refusal 
* Please provide clarification on the types of information you require,
for example, do you want written documentation, emails or other types
of information? All material 'relating' to the building of the trail
would likely capture other infomration such as consents, permits and
 approvals. 
* Is there a certain time period from which you seek this information?
For example correspondence relating to building phase 2 of the Te Ara
Mangawhero Trail after necessary approvals were secured.

Please note, any clarification or amendment of a request may be considered
a new request for the purpose of calculating the maximum statutory
timeframe for a response (if clarification was sought within seven days of
