Dear University of Auckland,
I am making a request under the Official Information Act 1982 for information relating to the University of Auckland’s student accommodation operations.
For each University-managed or University-operated residence/hall of residence, including but not limited to Waipārūrū Hall, University Hall (Apartments and Towers), Grafton Hall, O’Rorke Hall, Carlaw Park Student Village, Te Tirohanga o te Tōangaroa, 55 Symonds, Goldie Estate, and any other student residences, please provide the following for the 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 financial years:
* Any financial statements, profit and loss reports, management accounts, cost-centre reports, budget reports, or equivalent financial reporting held for each residence.
* A breakdown, by residence and year, of:
- accommodation revenue;
- food/catering revenue, if separately recorded;
- operating expenditure;
- staffing costs;
- catering costs;
- repairs and maintenance;
- utilities;
- cleaning;
- depreciation or internal property charges, if allocated;
- any surplus, deficit, contribution margin, or equivalent internal performance measure.
* Annual budgets and forecast-vs-actual reports for each residence.
* Occupancy reporting for each residence, including available beds, occupied beds, occupancy rate, and any annual occupancy summaries.
* Any annual reports, operational reviews, business plans, performance reports, or papers summarising the financial or operational performance of student accommodation.
Any Council, Finance Committee, Audit and Risk Committee, University Executive Committee, or senior leadership papers from 2022 to 2025 that discuss:
- financial performance of student accommodation;
- accommodation pricing or fee-setting;
- occupancy or demand;
- refurbishment, expansion, or closure of residences;
- partnerships or commercial arrangements relating to student accommodation.
For residences operated in partnership with third parties, including Carlaw Park Student Village, please provide any high-level financial or operational reporting held by the University, including partnership summaries, revenue/cost sharing information, lease/licence arrangements, or reports to Council or senior management.
If financial statements are not prepared for each residence, please provide the closest equivalent internal reporting used to monitor the financial and operational performance of each residence.
