Certificates of Identity- OIA Act

john luke made this Official Information request to Department of Internal Affairs

The request was successful.

From: john luke

Dear Department of Internal Affairs,

Over the past three calendar years (2023, 2024, and 2025), how many Certificates of Identity have been issued per each calendar year, please provide the total number issued for each calendar year. Additionally, include a breakdown of how many were issued by nationality, and indicate whether you maintain records on the categories under which applicants applied. For example, I understand that the two main reasons for issuing a Certificate of Identity are that the applicant is either a refugee/protected person or is unable to obtain a passport from their country of origin.

Please also outline any other categories or reasons under which a Certificate of Identity may be issued.

Yours faithfully,

john luke
