I refer to your request under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (the
Act) of 6 April 2026 for information regarding Council-owned forestry with a commercial benefit or
outcome. In accordance with Section 13 of the Act, we can advise as follows:
Question 1
The size and location of all forestry owned by the Council that has a
commercial purpose or outcome
Response 1
The tables in
Attachment A set out all locations where Council-owned trees
are managed as commercial forestry on land owned or leased by Council.
The areas provided are indicative.
Question 2
Whether any of this forestry is scheduled for harvesting in 2026 or 2027.
If so, please provide the location(s) and area (in hectares).
Response 2
The tables in
Attachment A list all locations that were harvested or are
scheduled for harvest in 2025, 2026, and 2027 (under the heading "Harvest
2025 to 2027"). Sites that are not subject to harvesting are marked as
No under the same heading.
Question 3
For any forestry that has been, or is planned to be, harvested in 2025,
2026 or 2027, please provide details of the species intended for
replanting and the corresponding locations, if any.

Al forest locations harvested or proposed to be harvested from 2025 to 2027
have been (or wil be) replanted in Pinus Radiata unless noted as different
(Under Harvest 2025 to 2027 heading in the tables in
Attachment A)
Question 4
Does the Council have any land that is leased or agreed for both
forestry and recreational use? If so, please provide the locations and
type of recreational use.
Response 4
Where forestry operates under a lease or other formal arrangement for both
commercial and recreational purposes, the tables in
Attachment A have
been highlighted in yellow. Recreational use in these areas is generally
limited to passive activities such as walking, biking, or horse riding.
