Dear University of Otago,
I am requesting information regarding entry into the BDS, MB ChB and Oral health programme through the “graduate” category for these years (2024-2025), or when the UCAT is no longer required when applying to dentistry and other questions regarding these professional programmes:
1) How many people applied through the “graduate” category for Dentistry and Medicine?
2) Lowest GPA for successful graduate applicants (including sub-categories, Alternative, Equity, international category) for Dentistry, Medicine and Oral Health.
3) Highest GPA for unsuccessful graduate applicants (including sub-categories, Alternative, Equity category, and International) for Dentistry, Medicine and Oral Health.
4) For Dentistry, of those individuals who applied, how many received an interview invite?
5) For Dentistry, of those individuals who received an interview invite, how many received an offer?
6) For Dentistry, of those individuals who received an offer, how many received an accepted offer and declined?
7) When applying through the sub-categories, do you still consider all equity groups for the graduate category or are those groups still considered through their own categories, like Maori, Pasifika, Socioeconomic, Rural, Refugee and International?

The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the date your request was received/clarified. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit. We are therefore writing to notify you, pursuant to section 15A of the Act, of an extension of the time to make our decision in respect of your request, by 20 working days – to 28 May 2026. However, we will endeavour to provide the information sooner if possible. We thank you for your patience.
If you are not satisfied with our extension of time, you have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
