update - OIA: GEMS-46368
john luke made this Official Information request to Ministry of Education
The request was successful.
From: john luke
Dear Ministry of Education,
Thank you for your recent reply- OIA: GEMS-46368 – Appointments to Education New Zealand and The Correspondence School - Te Kura
I noted " In reponse to parts three and four of your request, following the latest public advertising, ten applications were received for Education New Zealand (ENZ) and three for Te Kura, and 17 applications were received from nominating agencies for ENZ and Te Kura."
It appears that there may be inaccuracies in the data provided in your response, as the figures do not add up. Could you please clarify which figures are correct?
I noted "In response to part five of your request, the appointment process is still in progress, so no applicants have been shortlisted or interviewed at this stage." Given that some time has now passed, I was wondering whether you might be able to provide an update on the current progress. In particular, could you please advise when shortlisting and interviews are expected to take place, and when the outcome is anticipated to be made available to the public?
I also note that my first question was not fully addressed. "May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website." May I please know how public nominations were called for, and on which platforms these nominations were sought? I would appreciate it if you could list all platforms on which these roles were advertised.
Yours faithfully,
john luke

Tēnā koe John,
Thank you for your email regarding our recent response to your request for
information relating to nominations to the boards of Education New Zealand
(ENZ) and Te Kura.
Regarding your question relating to part one of your request, we note that
the public nominations were called for from an advertisement published on
the Ministry's website only. The Ministry did not engage with other
platforms to advertise the call for nominations. While other platforms may
have shared the call for nominations, they would have done so without
Ministry engagement, therefore we are unable to provide a list of
platforms where the call for nominations was shared.
Regarding your question relating to parts three and four of your request,
I note that there were 13 applications received from the public, and 17
applications received from nominating agencies. As per our response letter
to your request, ten applications from the public were received for
Education New Zealand (ENZ) and three applications from the public were
received for Te Kura. In addition to the response letter, we note that the
applications from nominating agencies did not state which board each
applicant is seeking an appointment for, therefore all 17 applications are
being considered for both boards.
Regarding your question relating to part five of your request, the
appointment process is ongoing as of 9 February 2026.
As you are a regular requestor for information relating to appointments
and nominations to boards, we would like to extend an invitation for you
to meet with Jennifer Heersping, Director of Monitoring & Appointments,
who is happy to discuss the Ministry’s process for appointments to boards.
If this is something you’re interested in, please email
