Request for a list of the "mainstream media outlets" that the police media team will respond to
Joshua Drummond made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

From: Joshua Drummond
Dear New Zealand Police,
I am a resident of New Zealand. In correspondence with Jeff from the New Zealand Police Media Team ([email address]) on Wednesday 14 January 2026, regarding a story I was researching about AI-generated imagery on social media, Jeff stated:
"We service requests for mainstream media outlets and can deal with between 150-200 queries a day. As a media team, we do not have capacity to answer questions from non-mainstream outlets."
Jeff also suggested that I frame my media questions in the form of Official Information Act requests, so I am taking his advice. I am intrigued by the implied official existence of opinions on what the New Zealand Police considers "mainstream." Accordingly, I am requesting
- a list of all the media outlets the Police and their media team deem mainstream (enough to warrant responding to media queries).
- a list of all outlets Police and their media team deem non-mainstream (to the point they don't warrant a response to media queries).
Yours faithfully,
Joshua Drummond
