I am making this request under the Official Information Act 1982.
Scope and purpose
This request seeks information relating to the management of recognised environmental and airborne hazards within New Zealand Defence Force facilities. It is systems-focused and does not seek personal or medical information, nor does it assert causation or liability.
The purpose of this request is to understand what hazard management records were created, held, or lawfully disposed of during the period specified.
Timeframe
1 January 2000 to 31 December 2025.
Hazards in scope
This request relates to hazards governed by formal occupational health, safety, and environmental management frameworks, including but not limited to:
biological hazards (e.g. Legionella);
particulate hazards (e.g. asbestos);
chemical agents (e.g. herbicides, solvents, fuels).
Information requested
For the period above, please provide copies of any records held by NZDF that fall within the following classes:
Risk assessments and written schemes relating to environmental or airborne hazards.
Management plans (including Legionella Management Plans and Asbestos Management Plans) and review records.
Monitoring, inspection, or testing logs (including water systems, air monitoring, or material sampling).
Remedial action records and verification or clearance outcomes.
Contractor reports, certifications, or compliance documentation.
Internal correspondence (emails, memos, briefings) relating to hazard identification, exceedance, mitigation, or control.
Registers or notifications submitted to other authorities in relation to environmental hazards.
Records not held
If any information within scope is stated to be “not held”, please also advise:
whether the information was ever created;
if created, the retention policy or disposal authority relied upon;
the date and scope of any destruction or transfer;
whether another agency or contractor may hold the information.
Electronic copies are preferred.
