Briefings provided on bilingual hindrance
H Atkins made this Official Information request to Erica Stanford
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for H Atkins to read a recent response and update the status.
From: H Atkins
Kia ora Erica Stanford,
I was reading through the following RNZ article this morning that reported on the decision in October last year to remove Te reo from books for the Ready to Read Phonics Plus series.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/5697...
Given the numerous studies across the past decade illustrating the postive effects of learning and knowing multiple languages at any age (e.g. the following https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PM...) under the OIA please provide any briefings or correspondence (emails, texts and signal messages, but excluding correspondence with private citizens) that mention the positives or negatives of learning multiple languages or learning Te reo Māori that have been provided to the Minster or her Office.
Yours faithfully,
H Atkins

Kia ora,
Given my request was for 'briefings or correspondence ... that have been provided to the Minster or her Office.'
I don't feel it is appropriate for this request to be transferred to the Ministry of Education, given that correspondence held by the Minister for Education is not "more closely connected with the functions" the ministry of education. In fact, the ministry of education wouldn't hold that correspondence.
I'm not sure this is the appropriate course of action here.
Does this actually need to be transferred?
Yours sincerely,
H Atkins
