MbChB Admission Information Request
John made this Official Information request to University of Otago
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for John to read a recent response and update the status.
From: John
Dear University of Otago,
I am writing to request information under the Official Information Act regarding the admission statistics for the Medical program (MBChB) at the University of Otago.
Specifically, I am seeking detailed statistical data similar to that provided by the University of Auckland in their recent release (https://fyi.org.nz/request/27527-2024-co...). The information I am requesting includes:
Total number of applicants for each of the past five years, broken down by:
First Year (General, MAPAS, RRAS)
Graduate (General, MAPAS, RRAS)
Total number of offers made for each of the past five years, broken down by:
First Year (General, MAPAS, RRAS)
Graduate (General, MAPAS, RRAS)
Total number of acceptances for each of the past five years, broken down by:
First Year (General, MAPAS, RRAS)
Graduate (General, MAPAS, RRAS)
Breakdown of the applicants, offers, and acceptances by demographic information such as gender and ethnicity for each category (General, MAPAS, RRAS) over the past five years.
Number of students from each region in New Zealand that have applied and been accepted into the program for each of the past five years.
Any other relevant statistics or information that provides insights into the admission process for the Medical program at the University of Otago.
I appreciate your assistance in providing this information. If any part of my request is unclear or you need further information to process it, please do not hesitate to contact me
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
John R

Dear University of Otago,
I am writing to add a supplementary request to my previous Official Information Act submission. In addition to the data already requested, I would also like to obtain information on:
The number of students enrolled in each category at the start of the year, and the number of students still enrolled in the course at the end of the year for each of the past five years (2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020).
Furthermore, I realize that I may have used incorrect terminology for the categories in my initial request. Instead of General, MAPAS, RRAS, I intended to refer to the following categories: General, Māori, Pacific, Rural, Refugee, and Socioeconomic.
Please use these revised categories for all relevant data in my request.
Thank you for your attention to these additional details.
Yours faithfully,
John

Tçnâ koe John,
I refer to your information request dated 25 July 2024 made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act). You have requested information in relation to the 2020-2024 MB ChB programme.
The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the date your request was received. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit. We are therefore writing to notify you, pursuant to section 15A of the Act, of an extension of the time to respond your request, by a further 10 working days – to 6 September 2024. However, we will endeavour to provide the information sooner if possible.
This extension is necessary to allow for consultations necessary to make a decision on your request. We are currently working on your response, but due to the time required to produce the information requested, we require some additional time to complete our response. We thank you for your patience.
If you are not satisfied with our extension of time, you have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
Ngâ mihi

Dear UoO Official Information Act Team,
Thank you for providing the data and for the time and effort that went into compiling it. The information looks thorough; however, I would appreciate further details regarding the enrolments page in the Excel file.
Could you please provide the number of students enrolled in First Year Health Sciences at the end of each month for the year? If this data is not available on a monthly basis, quarterly figures would be helpful.
Additionally, could you provide the number of students who ranked each health profession (e.g., Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy) as their first, second, and third choice when selecting their preferred professions?
Thank you again for your assistance.
Yours sincerely,
John
