Dear *OIA,

Thanks for the response

So just a little confused on one of the responses

Who records if people are in state emergency housing and where do I find this information?

Would / could some of these people be in State emergency housing even though they are in New Zealand illegally? 14,000 people would be a massive drain on resources / taxpayer

And maybe a question for another agency - but how many if any are receiving benefits / subsidies? If you can’t answer maybe direct me to an agency that can.

Yours sincerely,

Chris McCashin

Kia ora Chris,

Thank you for your follow-up questions.

Government-funded emergency housing in New Zealand is administered by Work
and Income, who are an organisation within the Ministry of Social
Development. They also look after the granting and payment of most
benefits, supplements and other subsidies for private accommodation to
those in need.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment is not aware of any
people unlawfully in New Zealand who are receiving support with
accommodation from Work and Income, however you may wish to ask them this
directly via [1][email address].

I hope this information is helpful.

Ngâ mihi nui,

Jesse
