Massey University
Dear Daniel
Further to my emails dated 27^th May 2015, and 3^rd June 2015, I am
responding formally on behalf of the University to your email dated 29^th
April 2015, requesting information under the Official Information Act
about Massey University’s funding of [public transport] concessions for
students.
It has taken some time to respond to your enquiry as much of information
is historic and not readily available. Some information is already in the
public domain. The response relates only to the Unlimited Access Bus
Service in Palmerston North.
You have requested the following information;
1. “What reports or documents, if any, does Massey University hold,
in regard to any business case considered for providing funding for public
transport?
2. What increase in student services levy, or similar levy on
students, occurred as a result of the funding?
3. What reports or documents, if any, does Massey University hold,
in regard to the benefits the University has received from this funding?”
After enquiry, Massey can confirm;
1. Massey University endorsed a 2-year pilot of the Unlimited Access
Bus Service in Palmerston North in July 2005.
2. The Unlimited Access Bus Service has never been funded from the
student services levy.
3. There is already substantial information in the public domain
about the benefits of the Unlimited Access Bus Service.
The Unlimited Access Bus Service received a Highly Commended Award in the
EECA EnergyWise Awards 2007. A media release about this award can be found
at;
[1]Massey News Article - Massey free bus service chosen as finalist in
national energy efficiency awards
Information about the Unlimited Access Bus Service includes media
releases, and conference presentations, including;
[2]Massey News Article - Successful free bus service extended until 2012

I trust this is the information you require.
