From: Landon Watt
University of Auckland
Dear Ruby,
I refer to your request of 5 May 2024. The University’s response follows.
“1.The details of any form of funding (including endowments, investments,
and donations) moving from the University of Auckland to any Israeli owned
or based, public or private entities (including businesses, companies,
corporations, organisations, and charities).”
The University does not have any partnerships with the State of Israel and
its public entities, except a Letter of Understanding for general academic
collaboration between the Faculty of Science and the Hebrew University of
Jerusalem, which runs until 2025. The University does not fund the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem. The University does not have a list of Israeli
owned or based private entities. This part of your request is partially
refused under section 18(g) of the OIA.
“2. The details of any form of funding (including endowments, investments,
and donations) moving from the University of Auckland to any individuals
that are known to be currently residing in Israel”
The University does not hold a list of individuals “known to be currently
residing in Israel”. This part of your request is refused under section
18(g) of the OIA.
“3. The details of any form of funding (including endowments, investments,
and donations) moving from the University of Auckland to any of the
following: Obela Hummus, Sodastream, HP (Hewlett-Packard), BP (British
Petroleum), SIEMENS, Caltex, RocketLabs and McDonalds.”
The University does not have any investments or make endowments or
donations to companies.
“4. The details of any non-financial relationships (including educational
schemes, recruitment, promotional activities, and apprenticeships) between
the University of Auckland and any of the following: Obela Hummus,
Sodastream, HP (Hewlett-Packard), BP (British Petroleum), SIEMENS, Caltex,
RocketLabs and McDonalds.”
The term “non-financial relationships” is unworkably broad. The University
is not a recruitment agent and does not provide apprenticeships. In
respect of Rocket Lab, as stated on the University’s website
([1]https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/news/2021/...):
“Te Pūnaha Ātea-Auckland Space Institute, based at the University of
Auckland, has joined with Rocket Lab and a team of the country’s leading
atmospheric and remote-sensing researchers on New Zealand’s first space
mission funded by the Government”.
See also [2]https://apss.space.auckland.ac.nz/ and
[3]https://www.mbie.govt.nz/science-and-tec....
This part of your request is partially refused under section 18(d) of the
OIA.
“5. The details of any form of funding (including endowments, investments,
and donations) moving from the University of Auckland to any of the
following universities: Technichron - Israel Institute of Technology,
Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Weizmann Institute of Science, Bar-Ilan
University, Tel Aviv University, University of Haifa, Ben-Gurion
University of Negev, Open University of Israel, Ariel University, and
Reichman University.”
See the response to question 1, above.
“1. The details of any schemes or programs that allow students to study
at, visit, or be hosted by the University of Auckland from any of the
following universities: Technichron - Israel Institute of Technology,
Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Weizmann Institute of Science, Bar-Ilan
University, Tel Aviv University, University of Haifa, Ben-Gurion
University of Negev, Open University of Israel, Ariel University, and
Reichman University.”
“2. The details of any schemes that allow for university staff (including
academic, administrative, or managing staff) to visit or be hosted by the
University of Auckland from the following universities: Technichron -
Israel Institute of Technology, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Weizmann
Institute of Science, Bar-Ilan University, Tel Aviv University, University
of Haifa, Ben-Gurion University of Negev, Open University of Israel, Ariel
University, and Reichman University.”
The University of Auckland does not have any such schemes. Information
about the University’s global partnerships is publicly available on our
website at
[4]https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/about-us/a....

Dear Ruby,
I refer to your request of 5 May 2024. The University’s response follows.
“1.The details of any form of funding (including endowments, investments,
