Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade did not have the information requested.
From: Lee Jared
Dear Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade,
I am writing to request information under the Official Information Act 1982 regarding New Zealand's diplomatic communications and discussions about Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), as well as New Zealand's participation in international forums on airspace security related to UAPs.
This request is informed by global interest and recent disclosures in the United States concerning UAPs. Given the significant implications for national security, international relations, and civil aviation, I am particularly interested in understanding how New Zealand engages with these issues on the international stage.
Accordingly, I kindly request the following information:
1. Diplomatic Communications:
Records of any communications, discussions, or correspondence with the United States and other countries regarding UAPs from January 2010 to the present.
This includes, but is not limited to, exchanges with embassies, diplomatic missions, and international organizations.
2. International Forums and Discussions:
Details of New Zealand's participation in any international forums, meetings, or discussions that addressed airspace security and UAPs. Information on any official statements, positions, or contributions made by New Zealand representatives on the topic of UAPs.
3. Inter-agency Coordination:
Information on how MFAT coordinates with other New Zealand government agencies (e.g., the Ministry of Defence, the New Zealand Space Agency) on matters related to UAPs in an international context.
4. Research and Analysis:
Any research, reports, or analysis conducted or commissioned by MFAT regarding UAPs and their implications for international relations and national security.
Understanding the sensitivity of the subject, I am open to receiving redacted versions of documents where necessary. Should some of the requested information be more appropriately held by another government entity, I would appreciate guidance or referral to the relevant agency.
Thank you for your attention to this request. I look forward to your response within the statutory 20 working days. Should you need any clarification, please feel free to contact me.
Warm regards.
