Case Officer Allocation Timelines for Parents Residence Visa Application
Syed Khurram Iqbal made this Official Information request to Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Syed Khurram Iqbal to read recent responses and update the status.
From: Syed Khurram Iqbal
Dear Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment,
I hope this email finds you well. I am seeking clarification on the case officer allocation timelines for a Parents Residence Visa application submitted on December 2023.
I understand that the allocation of a case officer is a crucial step in the visa application process, and I would like to inquire about the anticipated time frame for the assignment of a case officer to the application, as mentioned above. Additionally, I am keen to know the estimated processing time for the complete assessment of the application once a case officer has been assigned.
Furthermore, I have come across a general observation suggesting that parents' residence visa applications may not be prioritized over other residence visa categories regarding case officer allocation. Could you kindly confirm if this observation is accurate? If so, I would appreciate any insights into the factors influencing the prioritization of visa categories and the potential impact on the timelines for Parents Residence Visa applications.
I understand that the processing times may vary, and factors such as the complexity of individual cases and the overall workload of case officers can contribute to variations in processing times. However, having a general understanding of the expected timelines would greatly assist in managing expectations.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I appreciate your commitment to transparency and communication in immigration processes.
Yours faithfully,
Syed Khurram Iqbal

Tēnā koe Syed,
Thank you for your email of 16 January 2024 to the Ministry of Business,

Our response
As at 13 February 2024, the current age of Parent Resident Visa
applications at the time of allocation is 77 to 78 days.
Information about current resident visa wait times can be found on the
Immigration New Zealand website: [1]Resident visa wait times | Immigration
New Zealand. The current wait time for a Parent Resident Visa application
is nine months.
Applications are generally allocated to immigration officers in the order
they are received. However, like all other visa categories, individual
Parent Resident Visa applications may be prioritised in exceptional cases.
While we do not have specific criteria that must be met for a Parent
Resident Visa application to be prioritised, we must be satisfied that
there are unique circumstances that justify prioritisation.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
[2]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request or this response, please
