Any policy which has the effect or intent of prioritising Maori in the event of life and death decisions

Nick Farlow made this Official Information request to Health New Zealand

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Nick Farlow to read recent responses and update the status.

From: Nick Farlow

Dear Health New Zealand,

I understand that Health NZ had been working on Policy which has the intent of prioritising Maori and Pacific people in event that prioritisation means that priority decisions need to be made about who will receive life saving treatment and who will not. I understand that this arose out of the Covid pandemic and an awareness of limited resources for the allocation of what can be 'life and death' decisions by hospitals.

I understand that the way you have framed this work as been around "community contribution' or wording to similar effect.

Please:

Provide any internal policy/guideline or similar document relating to this matter;
If this is not available please confirm that this is a matter on which you had been working; and
Advise the current status of this work

Yours faithfully,

Nick Farlow

Health New Zealand has not been working on policy which means prioritising
Mâori and Pacific people to enable decisions about who will receive
lifesaving treatment and who will not.

You may be referring to work we provide information about
here:  [1]https://www.tewhatuora.govt.nz/publicati...

As this shows the health system has a core responsibility to achieve
equity in health outcomes among New Zealand’s population groups, including
by striving to eliminate health disparities, in particular for Mâori.

This means your request for any internal policy/guideline or similar
document relating to this matter is very broad. Various parts of our
health system have been working on these issues for at least 20 years. Can
you please consider narrowing your request to a specific policy, guideline
or document from any recent year?
