From: Mel
Dear New Zealand Transport Agency,
Years ago, i had my car seized by the courts, due to unpaid fines. At the time, my car had personalized plates attached to it. I was given no advice in regards to the plates, but i am wondering, if the plates are personal property, why were they taken with the vehicle? And why do i now have to pay the cost of having them remade?
I did ask the bailiff if i could remove them, to which i was told "if you touch the plates, i will have you arrested".. i was very young, and did not argue this at the time.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Yours faithfully,
M.Norgate

Thank you for your email.
Removing the plates from a motor vehicle would have required you to
complete a plate change translation to a general issue plate or for the
vehicle to be deregistered which is most likely why they would not allow
you to remove them at the time.
We suggest you contact Licensys and query if you still hold the rights to
entitlement for the personalised plate.
