Provisional Approval of Comirnaty

Athina Andonatou made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

Ministry of Health did not have the information requested.

From: Athina Andonatou

Dear Ministry of Health,

In response to a previous fyi Ref: H2022018890 in which it was quoted "I can advise that as a part of the provisional consent for the Comirnaty COVID-19 granted in New Zealand under the Medicines Act 1981, Pfizer has provided the same data,
albeitin a form that meets the company’s legal obligations in New Zealand".

My questions are:
1) Please provide the data that Pfizer provided to meet the company's legal obligations in New Zealand for which they received provisional consent.
2) Please advise what parts of the provisional consent have been fulfilled and what is still unfulfilled and the timeframes.
3) Given that Pfizer has said they did not test the vaccine to determine whether it stopped transmission, why did all the advertising used to promote the injection say it did? At what point did you know this was not correct and have you done a press release on this? If not why? And if yes, please provide details.

Yours faithfully,

Athina Andonatou

Tēnā koe Athina,

Thank you for your email that we received on 27 March 2023, asking for the
following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):

3) Given that Pfizer has said they did not test the vaccine to determine
whether it stopped
transmission, why did all the advertising used to promote the injection
say it did? At what
point did you know this was not correct and have you done a press release
on this? If not
why? And if yes, please provide details.”

This email is to let you know that Te Whatu Ora needs more time to make a
decision on your request.

The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no
later than 20 working days after the day we received your request.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are
therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our
decision, to 26 May 2023.

This extension is required because the consultations necessary to make a
decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably
be made within the original time limit.

If you have any questions, please contact us at [1][email address]

If you are not happy with this extension, you have the right to make a
complaint to the Ombudsman. Information about how to do this is available
at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or by phoning 0800 802 602.
