Waitangi Operation
Grant Carroll made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
The request was refused by New Zealand Police.
From: Grant Carroll
Dear New Zealand Police,
Pursuant to the Official Information Act 1982 please provide me with the following information:
1)The number of police deployed on each shift for the operation at Waitangi on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th February and what units were these staff drawn from eg Road Policing, PST, CIB, Protection Services, MPES, etc.
2) How many arrests were made at Waitangi on each shift on each of the above dates.
I confirm that I am a New Zealand citizen resident in New Zealand.
Many thanks for your help with this.
Yours faithfully,
Grant Carroll.

Dear New Zealand Police,
Your response to this OIA request is now overdue.
Can I get some feedback as to when I am likely to receive the requested information or, as seems to be the case with the majority of OIA requests submitted to NZ Police via the FYI.org.nz website, do I just make another complaint to the Ombudsman.
Many thanks.
Yours faithfully,
Grant Carroll.

Dear Ministerial Services,
Thanks for your reply but completion "in the next few weeks" is totally unacceptable.
This request was submitted on 8th February and by law I should have received a reply by 8th March. I left it until 13th March to point out that the reply was overdue and that I intended to make a complaint to the Ombudsman. My follow-up on 13th March was totally ignored for two weeks and now I finally receive a reply to indicate that the response will take another few weeks.
Unfortunately these breaches of the Official Information Act by New Zealand Police are only too common and I am told that the only way the Ombudsman's Office can monitor these breaches is to receive complaints about them, which I will now do .
Yours sincerely,
Grant Carroll
