Drivers Licence Tests - pass rate

Christine Meads made this Official Information request to New Zealand Transport Agency

The request was successful.

From: Christine Meads

Dear New Zealand Transport Agency,

Can you please provide a breakdown for the below across each region and nationally for each of the years separately - 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022:

- How many people who sat their restricted licence test for the first time passed it?
- Of those people who didn't pass on their first attempt, how many went on to pass the restricted licence test on their second attempt?
- On average, how many attempts did it take for people to pass their restricted licence?

Can you please provide the same breakdown for people sitting their full licence test.

Does the Government cover the cost for people on a Government funded benefit to sit a restricted or full licence test?

Yours faithfully,

Christine

Partial transfer of the request you made under the Official Information
Act 1982

Thank you for your email below requesting information regarding restricted
licence tests under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).

The following question of your request is more closely connected with the
functions of Ministry of Social Development than with Waka Kotahi NZ

o Does the Government cover the cost for people on a Government funded
benefit to sit a restricted or full licence test?

Therefore, Waka Kotahi is transferring your request to Ministry of Social
Development under section 14 of the Act.

The time limit for their response to you is 20 working days from 1
February 2023 so you can expect a response from Ministry of Social
Development on or before 2 March 2023.
