You requested information in relation to correspondence between MBIE,
Sport New Zealand, New Zealand Football, relating to the submission of the
bid to host the tournament. Due to the date range of 23 August 2019 to13
December in which the correspondence you have specified fall within, there
is substantial number of correspondence that we will need to review and
prepare. For this reason it will take some time to prepare a response in
which to provide you.
To help us provide you with the most relevant information I am inviting
you to narrow the scope of your request to reduce the number of
correspondence so we can provide you with the most relevant information as
soon as possible.
You may wish to do one of the following:
o Reduce the date range in in which the correspondence were sent
o Specify particular topics discussed in the correspondence
However, if you wish to proceed with the request as it currently then it
will very likely take longer than the statutory 20 working days.

Following my last communication with you on 27 January 2023. I would like
to give you an update in relation to your information request received on
19 December 2023.
In relation to the following questions within your request:
2. Please provide a copy of all email communications, if any, between New
Zealand Major Events and New Zealand Football, relating to the submission
of the bid to host the tournament.
3. Please provide a copy of all email communications, if any, between New
Zealand Major Events and the Ministry of Sport, relating to the submission
of the bid to host the tournament.
After starting the process of collating and reviewing emails which fall
within the scope above in addition to your clarification provided on 27
January 2023, we have discovered that the number of emails within scope
have amounted to over 1500 emails. After compiling these emails together
along with their corresponding attachments, the total number of pages will
amount to over 6500. Given the time and resources required to review these
pages as well as the time for consultation, we will have to refuse this
part of the request in my final response under Section 18(f) of the Act,
that the information requested cannot be made available without
substantial collation or research.
I do however intend to respond to the remainder of your request by the
agreed date of 4 April 2023.
