Dear Anna

 

Thank you for your email to the Ministry of Justice requesting under the
Official Information Act 1982 the number of registered sex offenders
living in the Upper Hutt region and how many of them are paedophiles.

 

New Zealand, however, does not have a register of sex offenders and so we
are unable to provide the information you have requested.  Therefore,
under section 18(e) of the Act I am declining your request on the grounds
that "document alleged to contain the information requested does not
exist."

 

For your information the Government is investigating the creation of a
register.  An announcement was made by the then Minister of Corrections
and Police earlier this year:
